In a world of ever-advancing automotive technology, staying ahead means more than just servicing engines and changing oil. Today’s vehicles are packed with sophisticated safety systems, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, camera and radar sensors, parking assist, and more. These features fall under the umbrella of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). To work competently with them, technicians must be able to diagnose, adjust, recalibrate, and validate them to manufacturer standards.
At Dunns Automotive, we recognise this shift in vehicle complexity. That’s why we offer IMI-approved ADAS training and accreditation, enabling technicians and automotive businesses to validate their competence, boost professional standing, and expand service capability.
Why Gain ADAS Accreditation?
1. Meet Customer & Industry Expectations
The number of vehicles on the road with ADAS features continues to grow rapidly, as manufacturers incorporate more safety and driver-assistance technology. Vehicle owners increasingly expect garages to be able to handle everything from basic sensor alignment to full radar-camera calibration. Having accreditation signals to customers that you are competent and trustworthy with these advanced systems.
2. Open New Revenue Streams
With calibration tasks now being chargeable services, offering ADAS calibration and diagnostics becomes a clear commercial opportunity. By investing in training, you position your workshop to capture demand for ADAS repair, calibration, and recalibration work (work that many garages cannot yet deliver).
3. Bridge the Skills Gap
The pace of automotive electrification and autonomy is pushing the industry toward new standards. Technicians without up-to-date ADAS knowledge risk being left behind. Accreditation helps ensure your skills evolve in step with vehicle technology.
4. Industry Recognition & Credibility
Earning IMI accreditation gives you a credential recognised across the UK automotive trade and often beyond. It offers tangible proof of professional competence, distinguishes you in the marketplace, and gives customers confidence you meet high technical standards.
5. Entry to Professional Registers
Once accredited, you may gain entry to registers such as IMI’s Professional Register (or TechSafe register for those with electrified / safety-system competence). This makes your credentials publicly visible and reinforces trust among customers and peers.
6. Continued Relevance & CPD
IMI accreditations are valid for a period (commonly three years) and must be renewed or reassessed. This encourages continuous professional development and helps ensure your skills, knowledge, and tooling remain current with evolving vehicle technology.
What Does “IMI-Approved” Mean?
When we say Dunns Automotive is an IMI-approved centre, we mean that we meet the standards set by the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) to deliver and assess accreditation modules. The IMI is the professional body for people in the motor industry. It establishes benchmarks, accredits training, and ensures competence across a range of automotive disciplines.
“IMI accreditation” (formerly known under the ATA – Automotive Technician Accreditation scheme) is a voluntary but respected scheme to validate that individuals are competent in specific automotive areas. Being IMI-approved means we can deliver ADAS accreditation modules (such as calibration, re-accreditation) directly from our training facility, assess candidates, and certify them under the IMI scheme.
In short, IMI approval ensures the training and assessments we conduct are credible, aligned to industry standards, and accepted across the trade.
Dunns Automotive’s ADAS Training Courses & Structure
At Dunns Automotive, we deliver IMI ADAS accreditation modules at our dedicated ADAS facility located in Hamble, Southampton. We offer:
IMI Accreditation Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) – Calibration (Full Route)
IMI Accreditation Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) – Calibration (Re-accreditation)
What the Full Route Module Covers
The full route module (reference AOM230) is designed for technicians whose role involves ADAS calibration. It assesses your ability to:
Identify and correctly interpret vehicle-specific ADAS information
Determine the correct calibration method
Use software-driven recalibration procedures
Select and use appropriate tools and equipment
Perform calibration on at least two ADAS sensors (on a vehicle with two operating systems)
Completion of this module gives you an official entry route into TechSafe™ recognition and eligibility for the IMI Professional Register.
Who Should Attend
To qualify, technicians should be currently working in the automotive industry, with relevant diagnostic and workshop experience. You should already be familiar with vehicle systems, diagnostic approaches, and workshop best practices.
Why Re-Accreditation Is Important
Because vehicle systems evolve, and sensor technologies and calibration methods advance, re-accreditation ensures you remain competent with the latest standards and manufacturer requirements. We offer a re-accreditation route for technicians who already hold ADAS accreditation.
Duration, Scheduling & Booking
For course availability, dates, and to book, prospective candidates fill out a short enquiry form via our website. We then respond and confirm suitable dates for delivery.
Because of the hands-on nature, the course likely runs across one or more full days (depending on the cohort, vehicle types, and assessments). The exact schedule and cost will be confirmed when you enquire.
